To everyone’s surprise, a “new” album by Calvin Harris has arrived. Introducing 96 Months.
The album artwork was accidentally posted on Instagram two days before the official release, and then re-uploaded the day before without a release date. The cover design and the album’s name instantly evoke a sense of nostalgia. But let’s break it down.
The “new” album is titled 96 Months, a name reminiscent of the 2012 album 18 Months. You surely remember that collection of absolute hits: Feel So Close, We Found Love with Rihanna, or I Need Your Love with Ellie Goulding, just to name a few. The artwork for both albums is also very similar, hinting at a possible follow-up.
However, 96 Months doesn’t feature any new tracks, which explains the quotation marks around “new.” It’s simply a collection of all Calvin Harris releases from 2015 to today—essentially, the last 8 years, or 96 months if you prefer. The album also includes tracks released under his alias Love Regenerator and hits with Dua Lipa, Rihanna, Sam Smith, and recent tracks with Ellie Goulding. So, it’s a compilation, nothing more.
A quick stat about 96 Months: according to Spotify streaming numbers, this album features 5 tracks with over 1 billion streams, one of which even surpasses 2 billion.
