Steve Angello, in a recent interview for Billboard NEWS, shared some interesting insights and his thoughts on the future, not only for the Swedish band but also for the entire EDM scene.
First up is a rumor that’s been circulating for a while, about the new album that Swedish House Mafia are expected to release. It’s considered a sort of follow-up to Paradise Again, which they’ve described as “scrapped.” This highly anticipated album has been in the works for a long time, as Angello explains the three friends are often in the studio creating new music, but they need to find the right “flow” before they can complete and release it.
Then again, let’s be honest, that should be the goal of every artist… So, the long wait is worth it.
During Tomorrowland 2023, if you remember, during Angello & Ingrosso’s DJ set, Angello himself, while playing Ray Of Solar, mentioned that there was a new album on the way, citing the end of that summer. The album never arrived. We covered the whole story in our article.
Can we trust it this time? When should we expect it? In the meantime, the three Swedes continue to release solo tracks and remixes, like Flood and Hoolingans or Axwell’s remix of Finally.
In his Billboard NEWS interview, Angello also shares thoughts on the future of the EDM genre. He’s aware that today it’s much easier to learn how to use production software or understand how to create a good sound. “Just open Google or YouTube,” he says, but creativity, ideas, and that famous “flow” we (and He) talked about are still essential.
In his words, we can sense the widespread critique of today’s music world: anyone can access music distribution, and anyone can create and release a track. For many, this is a downside. And if we think about “having to release a track at all costs,” maybe it is. But as we at EDM Lab often say, “this could actually be an advantage.” It allows us to discover new music, new talents, and not stay confined to the bubble that EDM, like any music genre, has built over the past 15 years. Is it better to have a lake with only a few quality fish or a vast ocean filled with emerging fish alongside the big whales?
Angello is thus hopeful about new music from the Swedish trio and positive about the abundance of music around. We at EDM Lab continue our mission to bring you fresh music with our Best of Today #Release. Below, you can find the interview. It’s really worth watching.
