Avicii’s “Forever Yours” and Sandro Cavazza’s controversy

As many of you probably already know, on December 31st, Netflix released both the new documentary “Avicii – I’m Tim,” which we talked about, and also Avicii’s last DJ set at Ushuaïa in Ibiza.

A set that became an iconic moment of the 2010s, as it was Tim’s last official appearance behind the decks. It was a tough choice, but over the years, we learned to accept it until the tragic news of his passing arrived. How much more could Tim have given to his fans? But more importantly, how much could we, as fans, have given to Tim? That might be the most important question, something he truly needed.

During this set, different edits of his tracks were played, including an edit of a song that was never released at the time. We’re talking about “Forever Yours,” featuring the voice of Sandro Cavazza and co-written with Sting. The track was never officially released while Tim was with us. It was only in 2020 when it was reworked, completed, and released by Kygo. We also talked about it on our site in this article.

Now, in early 2025, and quite unexpectedly, this track has been released again as a single in the same version that Tim played in 2016 during his last show in Ibiza.

The track, which we also featured on our radio show “Best of Today #Release #293,” takes us back to the amazing sound of this artist, making us dream once again. But it also comes with some controversy: On Instagram (here’s the post), Sandro Cavazza himself spoke about the track, saying that he never agreed to release the song as a single, but only as part of an album/EP that would have represented the playlist from Avicii’s last show in Ibiza.

Cavazza also said that “it was not in Avicii’s interest to release this track” and that “only he truly knew when his songs were completely finished and ready to be released.” The controversy is directed at the label, which, according to him, made this decision without respecting what Tim and his family wanted. He ends by saying that “he doesn’t think this is the right choice.”

We won’t take sides in this debate, whether it’s right or wrong, but this track brought us a smile. As we look up to the sky once again, we say: Thank you, Tim!
