Daft Punk and GTA VI: did Rockstar offer an unlimited budget ?

If someone offered you an unlimited budget to create a soundtrack, would you say yes? What if that offer came from Rockstar Games?

According to a rumor circulating on X, Rockstar Games allegedly tried to recruit Daft Punk to work on the soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto VI, potentially offering the French duo a chance to reunite following their split in 2021.

The rumor was shared by the account Has It Leaked, which claimed that Daft Punk’s management had received a proposal for one final reunion, backed by a virtually unlimited budget. According to the same source, the deal never went through, reportedly leading Rockstar to turn to fellow French electronic duo Justice.

However, neither Rockstar Games nor Daft Punk’s representatives have officially confirmed the alleged negotiations. For now, the story remains an unverified rumor.

Beyond Daft Punk: Other Electronic Artists Connected to GTA VI

Electronic music will have a place in the world of GTA VI. Rockstar has confirmed that Justice contributed original music to the game. The French duo has also released Flower in a Hurricane, a track featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.

Other names connected to Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album include Fred again.., PinkPantheress, and Étienne de Crécy, alongside CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso on the track Sexy Magic.

There’s also a direct connection to Daft Punk: Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, one half of the legendary duo, produced RHYNO by Travis Scott, which is also featured on the album.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official GTA VI: The Album is also expected to arrive on the same date, featuring 34 original tracks.

We may never know whether a new Daft Punk production could have made it into the game, but the idea of a reunion tied to one of the most anticipated video games of all time is certainly intriguing.
