Premise: today more than ever the figure of the DJ at certain major festivals like Tomorrowland is increasingly close to that of a rockstar. People attend these events to have fun, dream, and disconnect from the monotony of everyday life. What really matters is getting a strong rush of adrenaline, enhanced by the magical “show” that only festivals like Tomorrowland can deliver. Everything else—including talent, meritocracy, passion, and cult status—can even come second, as long as people are having fun.
We took a few days before addressing the topic of Salvatore Ganacci. We read dozens of comments on social media and just as many articles from the most important EDM outlets in Italy and beyond. Only after careful reflection did we decide to share our opinion: Salvatore Ganacci is a true stage animal: genius, original, entertaining. Everything else doesn’t matter.
The recent performance at Tomorrowland (see the video below) by Emir Kobilić, the Swedish DJ/producer of Bosnian origin known as Salvatore Ganacci, has sparked a lot of discussion online in recent hours, clearly dividing the crowd: on one side the purists and complainers of the DJ booth, on the other those who appreciated the show and had fun. Watching a Ganacci performance you probably won’t be facing a DJ set of huge technical relevance—although we appreciated the many (genius) mashups—but rather a real entertainment show where music becomes the perfect background to his sensual dances, twerking on the CDJs, and plenty of laughs.
Before the case described above exploded, we were in Miami and attended live the Ganacci show at the WorldWide stage of the Ultra Music Festival, packed with fans. Fifty minutes of laughs and good music while watching Salvatore dance and jump between drops. We had fun, and that’s what really matters. His show left us with a great memory: beyond the music (which actually wasn’t bad at all), Ganacci made everyone jump and achieved exactly what we mentioned in our premise! (our exclusive video).
Let’s stop with the usual bar-style criticism. The main goal of music has always been to make people have fun and feel good, one way or another—it doesn’t really matter how. Salvatore is genius and original in front of an #EDM scene that is becoming increasingly flat with tracks that are incredibly easy. The right dose of cheekiness, a few well-crafted mashups, and the dish is served: guaranteed fun, seasoned with good music. Have a laugh!
