Round Table Knights’ Calypso gets a fresh Afro House rework

More than a decade after its original release, Calypso by Round Table Knights gets a fresh reinterpretation. The track, originally dropped in 2010 on Jesse Rose’s Made to Play label, was a defining moment for minimal house, known for its playful percussion, stripped-back groove and timeless bounce. Now, it returns as a two-track EP released via Municipal Recordings, featuring new versions by LOSTMYFAITH, Vikina and Sam Ourt.

Rather than offering a simple update, the new Calypso brings two distinct takes: one with a warm, organic Afro House vibe, and another more club-driven, built for peak-time dancefloors. Both versions maintain the rhythmic identity of the original, while introducing richer textures and fresh vocal elements.

The Afro House mix leans into natural percussion, layered drums and a deep, steady groove. It’s atmospheric and hypnotic, drawing from global influences while keeping the track grounded in its dance roots.

At the heart of the EP is Vikina’s vocal performance. Switching effortlessly between English and Spanish, her delivery adds a bold and modern layer to the track, sensual without being over the top, confident yet smooth. Her presence transforms Calypso into something new: no longer just an instrumental jam, but a fully-formed song with character and direction.

As featured in episode #339 of our Best Of Today Release, this remake is poised to leave its mark.
