Diplo sells his music catalog

DiploUS DJ and producer Diplo, entered into an agreement with Los Angeles-based Iconoclast, which acquired the publishing rights to the catalog of Mad Decent.

Mad Decent, Diplo’s record label, is the home of many of the biggest dance hits of the past decade, including Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” and Major Lazer’s “Lean On.”

According to Music Business Worldwide reports, Iconoclast has made several acquisitions of music rights catalogs in the past year, totaling as much as $300 million.

The practice of selling one’s music catalog is chosen by several major producers in this recent period. We spoke a short while ago about the choice of Justin Bieber and even before the purchase of the Avicii’s music catalogue. How come many artists are moving in this direction?
