Alok‘s 2023 began similarly to how his 2022 ended, namely by releasing a rework of a past hit.
After “All By Myself,” with which he brought us back to 1990 by quoting Depeche Mode, it is now time for “Work With My Love.” This time the time machine stopped in 2004, when “Lola’s Theme” by British duo The Shapeshifters went platinum in the UK. You may remember that track primarily for the instrumental, inspired by Johnnie Taylor’s “What About My Love” (1982).
Going back to “Work With My Love,” the differences with “Lola’s Theme” is in the more electro and less house sound and in the vocal, which is male. He collaborated with Brazilian DJ and singer-songwriter James Arthur from Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire.
