This month EDM lab brings you to know something more from the Russian duo Matisse & Sadko. In the Music Industry since 2010, the two brothers became mainstream thanks to the quality of their productions and remixes. Their productions are in constant evolution but they keep their #ProgressiveHouse style. Many are the remixes that made them famous, bringing them to the Olympus of the biggest DJs. Let’s know them better:
Hi guys and welcome to EDM Lab, the Italian blog about #EDM Music who follow you from the beginning.
- We discovered you as awesome remixer of iconic EDM tracks. Just to mention a few of them like “Can’t Stop Now” by The Aston Shuffle, “Next To Me“ by Otto Knows, or “Beating Of My Heart“ (which we consider your remix as a masterpiece among the progressive house productions). Since then, it is possible to consider each of your edits as something always right and hyped. From where all this virtuosity toward progressive music come from?
M&S: Hi Davide. First of all, we would like to thank you for your continuous support. It means a lot! And thank you for your kind words about our music! As for your question, we can’t say that initially our passion for music was somehow connected with the “progressive” sound in particular. We fell in love with music when we were little kids. Year by year we experimented on different genres, developed our skills which eventually resulted in what we are now style-wise. Many people associate us with Progressive House but, of course, sometimes we try to surprise listeners with something different like our recent Doberman or self-released Ya Amar. We love making music on the whole, regardless of the style.
- “Beating Of My Heart” was part of the soundtrack of Tomorrowland in the years where the festival became mainstream. Can we consider this remix as a stepping stone toward the Olympus of the best producers in the world?
M&S: Are we among the best producers in the world? Hahahaha. Every person has his or her own list of best producers, it’s an individual choice. For some people we might be the worst producers haha. “Beating of My Heart” was indeed a strong remix but our original track “Hi, Scandinavia” was a milestone which provided us with the direction we should go further. It was supported greatly by the biggest names in the industry.
- Despite the lesser general attention toward the genre “progressive house”, you keep releasing productions that have a soul that is 100% progressive house. An example of this is the recent track “Mistaken” together with Martin Garrix. What are your thoughts? Do you think that the genre will keep existing in the future?
M&S: Why not? Of course, it may obtain different “shapes” as everything’s changing in today’s world. But we’ll always keep making melodic and soulful music in the first place. It’s up to listeners how to label it.
- You collaborated multiple times with Martin Garrix. Could you please share some anecdote of your collaborations?
M&S: When we first met at Sensation White Festival in Russia, Martin was a headliner. But he arrived at the venue a few hours before his show to watch our set. And then in the dressing room he confessed that he was listening to our music while doing his school homework. He was inspired much by our track “Hi, Scandinavia”. We were so happy to hear that and we realized it would be great to make a collab together with Martin.
- It seems that we are at the end of the “EDM cycle”. What do you expect as a new trend for the 2020?
M&S: We think EDM will obtain more live and analogue sounds. More live instruments will be used. Also we’re expecting a triumphant comeback of Disco! We’re preparing a few Disco tracks for release in 2020.
- Will you keep on releasing Progressive House Edits?
M&S: A couple of tracks are in the making right now, so let’s keep it a secret and you’ll hear the result in the near future!
- You collaborated with the biggest names in the world: Arty, Martin Garrix, Steve Angello, Dubvision, Afrojack, Galantis, etc. Who is the next artist(s) with whom would you like to collaborate with?
M&S: We have a few unfinished collabs with incredible producers. Our fans have been waiting for us to collab with these guys, we’ve read lots of comments and they really want it. Hope we can make it happen next year.
- What are your thoughts about the premature demise of a great artist such as Avicii?
M&S: It was a real shock for us like for all other people, we think. We are big fans of Tim, he is an outstanding musician and his legacy and contribution to the world of music will be remembered for good.
- EDM Lab always supported your tracks and remixes in our old radio shows and, more recently, in our rubric “Best of Today #Release” dedicated to the best new weekly releases from Friday. Do you want to share any anticipation on your next track?
M&S: Can’t thank you guys enough for your support! Our next track is gonna be a big one, we promise! Looking forward to it!
Thanks for having been with us, we look forward to having you soon in Italy.
