2024 has ended, and we talked about trends and various rankings, including our Top 10. But who better than the world’s leading tracklist database to give us a general overview of what happened?
A State Of Dance Music is 100% based on data collected from track plays in live sets (festivals, clubs, and more) and DJ radio shows, label releases, and, of course, radio stations.
In 2024, dance music experienced unprecedented growth, despite what is often said about this genre. Different shades of EDM gained global popularity. The boundaries between mainstream and underground sounds, or better yet, between genres, are more blurred than ever. Many artists are starting to experiment and follow new trends, and that’s amazing.
This year, a record-breaking 7.9 million people used 1001Tracklists, visiting the site more than 73 million times. For the second year in a row, the ‘Dance‘ genre is the most popular on the platform (24.1%), followed by Tech House (19.2%), House (12%), Mainstage (10.7%), Melodic House & Techno (8.4%), Trance (8%), Bass House (5%), Techno (4.1%), and Afro/Deep House (3.9%).
The track of the year is the remix by John Summit and Silver Panda of the iconic “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap. John Summit, who, as a reminder, ranked first in the Top 101 Producers released in October. At second place is “Skip” by Angello and Ingrosso. Third is one of the summer tracks, “Move” by Adam Port and Stryv. Rounding out the Top 5 are “She’s Gone, Dance On” by Disclosure at #4 and “Beats For The Underground” by Mau P at #5.
The Ultra Music Festival is once again at the top of the Top Tracklists of the year, led by the Mainstage sets from Martin Garrix, Hardwell, and Armin van Buuren (first, second, and third, respectively). At #4 is Hardwell from the Mainstage of Tomorrowland, and at #5 is Martin Garrix from circuitGROUNDS at EDC Las Vegas.
After Spinnin’ Records held the #1 spot in the label rankings for five consecutive years, this year Armada Music takes the top position, climbing to the top after finishing second last year. They’re followed by Toolroom Records at #2 (up 4 spots) and Smash The House at #3 (up 12 spots). Spinnin’ Records drops to #4, followed by Insomniac Records, Defected Records, Experts Only, Afterlife Recordings, Musical Freedom Records, and Atlantic Records.
Tiësto’s radio show Club Life remains #1 for the fourth year in a row, followed by A State Of Trance by Armin van Buuren and Ruben de Ronde at #2, Hardwell On Air at #3, Heldeep Radio by Oliver Heldens at #4, and Experts Only Radio by John Summit at #5.
