Michael Canitrot celebrates the reopening of Notre-Dame

Do we all remember the disaster that struck Notre-Dame Cathedral in 2019? It’s great to know that everything is back to normal now, and the reopening celebration had a Dance, or rather melodic-house, music theme, and spoiler: it was amazing!

Michael Canitrot (f)Michael Canitrot (DJ, producer, and founder of the Monumental Tour project) was responsible for closing the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris with a breathtaking show that combined his musical productions with an extraordinary visual performance.

With millions of people watching the show on the French TV channel Mondovision, the event allowed the public to rediscover the unique architecture of the cathedral, spreading a message of inspiration, sharing, and celebration worldwide. Passionate about heritage and an ambassador of French electronic music, Michael Canitrot presented a ‘Monumental’ sequence that combined melodic house sounds, digital art, and light design, celebrating the magnificence of Notre-Dame in a new light.

Canitrot commented on the historic performance, saying: “I was inspired, both musically and visually, by the unique elements of the cathedral: the sound of the bells, the artworks inside, the voices of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame choir, and the classical style.” He added: “I want to convey a universal message so that everyone can connect with my music and feel inspired to say: ‘I want to visit Notre-Dame again.‘”

Through his ‘Monumental Tour’ concept, Canitrot blends electronic music and heritage to offer unique immersive experiences. He had previously thrilled audiences at iconic locations such as Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey, the top of the Eiffel Tower for Gustave Eiffel’s centenary, and more recently, in front of the Basilica of Pilar in Zaragoza, where he attracted a crowd of over 45,000 people. His art continues to make its mark worldwide, with videos and broadcasts on social media reaching tens of millions of views.
