The historic Grant Park in Chicago hosted, from July 29 to August 1, the Lollapalooza Festival. This is a very important exception if we think that the majority of the festivals of 2021 did not take place.
It was almost a return to the old days: no social distancing, no masking. Participants, who by estimates numbered around 385,000, had to attest to being fully or partially vaccinated, or submit a negative swab within 72 hours of the event.
The 2021 edition of the festival report shows a 90% rate of vaccinated attendees. Instead, 8% submitted a negative tampon, while the remaining 2%‘s application to participate was rejected.
The Lollapalooza case, due to the rapid spread of the Delta variant, is causing much discussion and concern. Already during the festival, health officials and high officials of the city of Chicago have shown real concern. They decided to make it mandatory for all participants to wear a mask.
In the coming weeks, the situation will certainly become clearer. Stay tuned for updates.
