As mentioned in our in-depth article, after several vicissitudes, the 2021 edition of Burning Man has been canceled and postponed to 2022.
In recent days, however, there have been rumors that the Burners have no plans to skip their annual haunt. Even last year about 5,000 people had gathered in the Black Rock Desert without an official festival.
In fact, it seems that an informal group has taken the reins of the project and wants to hold an unofficial event. The latter could be held on the very same days that the Burning Man was supposed to take place, at the end of August.
There also appears to be no direct affiliation with the Burning Man organization, as the event is titled “Renegade Man / Plan B / Free Burn“. Under this name, several Facebook pages and a Eventbrite page have been created that are providing instruction on the event. Among the instructions provided is that it will be an edition devoid of any infrastructure, including health services, sanitation and emergency personnel.
Certainly, the Burners, estimated to be more than 10,000, have come into the crosshairs of authorities. Nevada’s Bureau of Land Management is on alert, placing restrictions and contacting anyone planning to visit the Black Rock Desert.
